to read while I spin I use

this little wonder : Thai Book Rest
Over the years I have used many designs and models made out of about every imaginable material there is. They just don't work. Until I found this little wonder. It holds the book in the perfect position, it will not slide or fall. You just hold the pages open with a large paper clip thing. The good part is that every time you let go to turn the page, your hands change position and they are not subject to unnecessary strain.
If you read Paula Simmons book: Spinning for Softness and Speed she says that once the wheel is set in the correct tension and if the fiber is properly prepared, you don't have to worry about it anymore. Your hands "know what they are doing" . The book is back in print so do not go paying all the money that book sellers want for it. The reprint is available for under $20. Just give Laura a call and she will tell you where. She is a wonderful person to talk to. I have no affiliation with her or her business. I have learned a lot from her on the phone and from her books. If I am not mistaken in the book she does mention that she reads while she spins too!
She also mentions that she spins single handed, just holding the fiber with one hand "as holding a baby bird". I can't do that, I have to use both hands....I have tried maybe one day.

I have never seen this book holder before! I never thought I could read while spinning but this looks pretty darned good! I may have to give it a try! Clever woman!

OK. I'm going to give this a try. Probably without the book rest at first, but I like the idea of doing two things at once!

Levenger's has the neatest things!

I have played around with the spinning one handed thing and got to the point where I could do it, but not consistently. When I could do it, it was just an amazing feeling. In other words, to be very direct (!), I am encouraging you to keep at it. Why didn't I? Well, I'm weaving and.......blogging. Something has to give.........

Very clever! I just use my cat, so I probably won't order one :)

I got your yarn sample today and I am going to pass on it, if it's ok with you. Do you want me to send back the sample?
